A Monthly Marketplace Update Checklist for Online Sellers

Marketplaces rarely stay the same for long. Fees shift, policies are updated, and the way products are ranked in search keeps evolving. Sellers who check in once a month usually avoid nasty surprises, such as a suspended listing or a sudden drop in visibility. Here is a simple checklist you can follow.

1. Read the seller announcements

Every major marketplace has a seller news or announcements page. Spend ten minutes each month scanning for changes to fees, shipping requirements, return rules, and prohibited items. Note anything that affects your categories.

2. Review your fees and margins

Take a few of your best-selling products and recalculate the profit after marketplace fees, shipping, and advertising. If a fee changed, you may need to adjust your pricing or bundle products differently.

3. Check listing health

Look for suppressed, inactive, or flagged listings. Missing attributes, low-quality images, and policy violations are the most common causes. Fixing them early keeps your products visible.

4. Refresh your top listings

  • Update titles and bullet points with the keywords customers actually use.
  • Replace weak or outdated images.
  • Add answers to common customer questions in the description.

5. Watch your competitors

Look at the top results for your main products. Compare their pricing, images, and titles with yours. You do not need to copy them, but you should know where you stand.

6. Track what worked

Keep a simple sheet with the date, the change you made, and the result. After a few months you will see which updates actually move sales.

Make it a habit

Pick a fixed day each month and treat it like any other business meeting. Small, regular check-ups are far easier than fixing a big problem after it has already cost you sales.
